Local leaders to address Lions Club
The Saratoga Lions Club invites all interested members of the community to attend its July 17 meeting. It begins at noon and will be held at Tratoria Restaurant, at the intersection of Big Basin Way and Fourth Street in the Saratoga Village.
The special guests for the meeting are Marchelle Fox, president of West Valley College in Saratoga, and Linda Salter, chancellor of the West Valley-Mission Community College District. The women will discuss a variety of topics, including education on campus and enhancement of the facilities.

Local artist instructs children
As part of the variety of arts, crafts, wellness and cultural programs and workshops it offers to the community, Hakone Gardens, at 21000 Big Basin Way in Saratoga, presents a series of art classes for children taught by Amy Konsterlie, a longtime artist and art instructor who lives in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Children ages seven through 14 will learn the basic techniques of drawing, painting, watercoloring, print-making and other arts. Because class size is limited to 10 students, everyone receives individual attention. Students should bring their own 9-by-11-inch spiral sketchbooks; all other supplies are provided.
Four sessions are available, from late July through late August. Each session comprises classes from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Tuesdays through Thursdays. For class dates, fees or other information, call Konsterlie at 408.353.4447.
Trip takes walkers over Golden Gate
The Saratoga Recreation Department is taking reservations now for a Sept. 6 day trip to San Francisco, during which participants will have the chance to take a walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. After arriving at the north end, they will re-board the tour bus and go on to Sausalito for a hosted lunch. The rest of the afternoon is open for exploring Sausalito.
