The paperback's first edition, which is on sale now, was funded by a group of donors interested in wildlife awareness. In 70 pages, the book describes 64 mountain animals, as seen through the eyes of author/docents Bob Piwarzyk and Marie Krajci and the late naturalist Barbara Lauck. Illustrations are by Stephanie Retsek. The book is available in California State Parks, in Santa Cruz County bookstores, and online at mpfslv@yahoo.com. For more information, call 831.335.3174.
Montalvo Gallery gets ready for a new installation
New York artist Mark Dean Veca's mural installation, titled Harum-Scarum, will be on display July 16 through Aug. 20 ,at the Gallery at Montalvo. A former Montalvo artist resident, Veca likes to use the visual language of cartoons in large format and will use the entire gallery space to create one of his irreverent takes on reality for which he is becoming known. The exhibition will also explore topics such as religion, culture, the hero and the anti-hero.
The public is welcome to attend a July 16 talk, beginning at 3 p.m., by Veca and Renny Pritikin, chief curator of the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, where Veca is also creating a large site-specific mural. A reception with refreshments follows the talk.
