Bosworth joins his coaches as all star

Andrew Bosworth joins an impressive list of Saratoga High School football players who have played in the Charlie Wedemeyer All-Star Football Game--a list that includes his high school coaches.

Bosworth will represent the Falcons in the 2000 game on July 26 at Spartan Stadium. It will be a game that Saratoga coaches Kurt Heinrich and Kevin Tanner will likely attend.

But it won't be the first trip Heinrich and Tanner have made to the all-star game. Heinrich, the Saratoga head coach, and Tanner, the defensive coordinator for the Falcons, were members of the North squad in the summer of 1981.

The two were joined on the all-star squad by teammates Rick Worman, Mike Stypula and Greg Stangland. All were members of the 1980 Saratoga team that won the Central Coast Section championship with a 13-0 record under the direction of head coach Benny Pierce.

Heinrich and Worman are also each members of rare brother triumvirates who have played in the game.

Heinrich's older brothers, Kyle (1975) and Mike ('76), and Worman's older brothers, Larry ('75) and Steve ('78), all played in the all-star classic.

The Goñi brothers also figure as a Saratoga trio that has played in the game. Kyle ('95), David ('97) and R. Daniel ('99), all sons of the late Saratoga coach Ray Goñi, each played in the summer contest.

Bosworth is the 78th Saratoga player to participate in the summer all-star game.
