Project Match expands services for seniors
Project Match, a countywide affordable housing organization, is expanding its programs to include case management and workshops on homesharing.
According to the Saratoga Area Senior Coordinating Council, Project Match is still focusing on shared housing, but is expanding its offerings slightly for Saratoga residents.
Through its case management program, Project Match staff can help seniors who need assistance in the home with chores, in exchange for providing a room. Through the program, a staff member will come to the senior's house to discuss the situation and determine the needs of the person requesting help. The group will then find a suitable housemate.
Project Match is also offering workshops to help answer questions about homesharing.
Project Match operates seven single-family homes in the area, including one in Saratoga, specifically for seniors who are independent but of low income. In the houses, rent is affordable, and program participants can still enjoy independence while gaining security and companionship.

Saratogan belts out the national anthem
Eighth-grader Danelle Medeiros has been making the rounds of professional and other ultra-competitive sports venues around the Bay Area lately, and it's not as an athlete, water girl or cheerleader.
She's been singing the "Star Spangled Banner" before games, and she's done it for some big audiences.
Medeiros, 13, has performed for everyone from the packed Women's World Cup qualifying tournament that swung through San Jose last December, to the San Jose Sharks in February, as well as for opening day at the West Valley PAL Girl's Softball League.
And the gigs aren't over. Medeiros is expecting to sing again for a San Jose Clash game before the season ends later this summer. She's also booked for the San Francisco Giants on Aug. 31, when they take on the Philadephia Phillies.
In addition to hitting that tough high note in the song's climax, Medeiros is active in the Theatrical Arts Academy, which is currently performing two shows, Guys and Dolls and Once Upon a Mattress.
