Saratoga NewsNews BriefsAttempted-murder suspect captured John Wong, suspected of shooting his father, Saratoga resident Joseph Wong, was captured June 27, according to Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department Lt. Carey Colla. Colla said Wong, 21, was arrested without incident in Rosemead, Calif., by Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies. At the time of his arrest, Wong is reported to have had a nine-millimeter semiautomatic handgun in his possession. Colla said tests are being conducted to determine if the handgun is the same one used in the April 11 shooting of Joseph Wong, 45. In addition to attempted murder, Wong is also accused of returning to his father's Far Ranch Road home on June 22, vandalizing the home and causing major damage. Council makes appointments The Saratoga City Council announced July 1 appointments--and reappointments--to the Hakone Foundation Board of Trustees. Residents Donna Harris, Stewart Lenox and Eva Yablonsky were named as new members of the Hakone board. Marjory Bunyard, the board's current membership chairwoman; Jack Christiansen, a Garden Committee member and former representative to the downtown business group; Cathy Foscato, the current secretary to the board; and Bruce Parkinson, chairman of the Garden Committee will be returning to the board for four-year terms. Argonaut Center plans will go to commission--again The Saratoga Planning Commission is scheduled to consider issues relating to the Argonaut Shopping Center at its meeting at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 8, in the Civic Theater on Allendale Avenue. New owners of property across the street from the shopping center have applied to have building permits for the land separated from the center's overall renovation project. Currently, approval for the construction of a building at the southeast corner of Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road and Blauer Drive is tied to the approval for the entire center. Commissioners tied the projects together to ensure that the renovation, and not just the construction of the building, actually did occur, according to city officials.
