Gymnasts place at competition
Samantha Smith and Ginny Kaufmann, both of Saratoga, finished in the top three when top equestrian vaulters from around the world competed in the "Ride the Edge" competition June 30 at Garrod Farms in Saratoga.
Mari Inouye of Woodside finished first in the international field with Smith second and Kaufmann third.
The competition, hosted by The Cooper-Garrod Estate Vineyards, featured vaulters from Canada, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Australia and the United States. Competitors perform gymnastics on cantering horses.
Internationally ranked judges, including Adrienne Stang from Saratoga, judged performances on strength, balance, artistry, and creativity.
The weekend was a benefit for Via Rehabilitation Services to rebuild Camp Costanoan, a summer camp for disabled children in Silicon Valley. Jane Garrod, the honorary president of the event, presented a check for $7,000 to Via at the closing ceremonies.
