Roger Clemens
Saratoga resident Roger W.C. Clemens died June 30, following a short illness. He was 83.
Born June 10, 1918, in Wallace, Idaho, Clemens moved at an early age with his family to California. He obtained a master's degree in forestry from UC-Berkeley. He went on to serve as a professor of forestry at the College of San Mateo for more than 25 years. Clemens was also a past president of the Santa Clara County Alumni Association and was a parks and recreation commissioner for the city of Saratoga.
Clemens had a wide variety of interests and other occupations, including being a sports broadcaster in the early 1950s, an investigator for the Bureau of Land Management and a campground surveyor for the National Park Service. During World War II, he served on the Admiral's Staff of the Amphibious Forces of the Pacific and was a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was also an active supporter of environmental causes his entire life.
Survivors include wife of 58 years Mary Clemens of Saratoga; children Skip, Alexa, Nancy and Patti; and 10 grandchildren.
Memorial services have been held. Donations may be made to a charity of choice.
