    Dammit Run

The 28th annual Dammit Run returns on Aug. 18 when another large field of tough runners is expected to make the rugged climb to the Lexington Reservoir, then return to the Los Gatos High School track.

As races go, this is a tough one. And race organizers caution Dammit entrants about the extreme conditions they may face on the trail.

"This course is rough, hot, rocky, dusty, with very steep uphill terrain and narrow trails," the race flier warns. "Don't underestimate its difficulty--this is not a race for the faint of heart or the timid."

The race will start tamely enough on the track at Los Gatos High School, and it will finish in the same location. But in between, runners had best be prepared for the rocky, dusty trip into the foothills to Lexington.

Race-day registration will begin at 6:30 a.m., and the starting gun will blast at 8:30 a.m.

The preregistration entry fee is $10 ($30 with a T-shirt), and the fee is $20 on race day ($40 with a T-shirt). T-shirts alone are priced at $20 and will be sold at the track on race day or in advance at Athletic Performance, 55 W. Main St., or at the Runners Factory, 51 University Ave.

Proceeds from the Dammit go to benefit the Los Gatos High School Track Repair Fund.

    Soccer Camps

Major League Soccer Camps will return to Saratoga this summer for players in the under-6 through under-14 age divisions.

Camps are slated for Aug. 13-17 and Aug. 20-24 at Redwood Middle School. The cost is $105 for one week ($115 after July 31) or $170 for two weeks ($180 after July 31), and players will receive a soccer ball, camp T-shirt and a voucher for a San Jose Earthquakes game.

    Call 408.257.2976.

    All-star Football

Football's finest high school seniors will be back on the field this summer when the 27th annual Silicon Valley Youth Classic Charlie Wedemeyer High School All-Star Football Game returns to the Santa Clara Valley.

The tradition will continue when the game, hosted by the Rotary Club of Almaden Valley, is played on July 25, 7:30 p.m., at the Independence High School stadium in East San Jose.

    Baseball School Returns

The annual Santa Clara Baseball School returns to Santa Clara University this summer under the direction of Mike Cummins and Lou Lucas.

A session for players ages 9-16 will be held July 23-27. Instruction in basic fundamentals and hitting runs 9 a.m.-noon, and the cost is $130 per player. A pitching only clinic runs 1-2:30 p.m. and the cost is $75 per player.

The school features individualized instruction in defense, base running, sliding and hitting, pitching machines, video analysis and radar guns. Each camper receivers a T-shirt, and contest winners receive Bronco caps.

For more information on the Santa Clara Baseball School, call 408.554.4680.
