    Obituaries

    William Bowen

    Former Saratoga resident William H. Bowen died June 13 in Redding. He was 73.

    Born March 19, 1926, in New York, Bowen moved to Saratoga in 1959, where he lived for 32 years. He retired to Redding in 1991. During World War II, Bowen served in Gen. George Patton's 3rd Army and earned three Purple Hearts and one Bronze Star for his military valor. In later years, he owned his own food brokerage business.

    Survivors include wife Melissa Bowen of Redding; son William of Bellingham, Wash; daughters Patricia Golf of Sarasota, Fla., and Nancy Matthews of Redding; and four grandchildren.

    Carl Morris

    Saratogan Carl Robert Morris died June 25 of pulmonary fibrosis at the age of 76.

    Born June 17, 1923, in Los Angeles, Morris learned the remodeling trade from a close friend and neighbor, who was also a contractor. In 1961, Morris moved to the San Jose area, where he began a business that specialized in kitchen remodeling. In 1985, he incorporated the business as Craft Masters Construction Inc., which later branched out into general remodling and home additions, primarily in the West Valley. After his 1998 retirement, he left the business to his son Bill.

    Morris married his wife, Verna, in 1962, which brought together his three children from a former marriage and her three children. They also had one child together.

    Morris was an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Saratoga, where he served as senior warden in 1970 and was a choir member for 36 years. In 1998, he supervised the installation of a memorial chapel in the south transept of the church.

    Survivors include children Janet, Bonnie, Bill, Karen, Kathy, Kevin and Margie; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister Kay Pulskamp and many nieces and nephews.

    Memorial services have been held. Donations may be made to either the Handicapped Facilities Project or the church choir at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 13601 Saratoga Ave., Saratoga, 95070.
