Saratoga NewsDeputies continue to conduct tests on assault suspect's gunBy Michelle Alaimo The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department is continuing to conduct tests to determine if a nine-millimeter semiautomatic handgun found in the possession of an attempted-murder suspect is the same one used in a shooting in Saratoga last April. John Yip Wong, 21, was wanted on charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly shooting his father, Joseph, 45, in the face at Joseph Wong's Farr Ranch Road home April 11. Wong is also suspected of vandalizing Joseph Wong's home on June 22, according to Sgt. Jim Arata, who said the investigation is ongoing. Wong was arrested in Rosemead, Calif., on June 27 at 1:15 a.m., after a private detective company--hired by Wong's family--traced phone calls made by Wong, said Gregory Emmerson, president of Corporate Protection Professionals Inc. According to Emmerson, Wong had been making threatening phone calls to his father and other family members. During the search for Wong, the firm had been providing on-site protection at the family's home. Emmerson added that the arrest was made after his company conducted a two-week investigation of Wong that involved tracing phone calls and setting up surveillance in the San Gabriel area at various locations near where the calls were made. Once the private detectives established that Wong was at an apartment in Rosemead, they contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Wong was arrested without incident an hour later by L.A. County Sheriff's deputies, Emmerson said. Wong was extradited to Santa Clara County on July 1, Arata said, and is awaiting a court date. No bail has been set.
