OBITUARY

Charles H. Kunsman Jr.

Charles H. Kunsman Jr., professor emeritus of political science at San Jose State University, was found dead from an apparent heart attack July 7 in his Saratoga home. He was 71 and a resident of Saratoga for the past 20 years.

Dr. Kunsman was born in the District of Columbia in 1924. He was a triple graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, receiving his bachelor's degree in 1949, a master's in 1955 and his Ph.D. in 1963.

He served in the Army Air Force from 1943 to 1946.

Appointed to temporary positions at San Jose State and the University of Nevada, Reno, Kunsman was appointed to a full-time position at San Jose State in 1961. He also served for several sessions as an assistant clerk and researcher for the California Legislature.

He taught courses in the field of comparative government, such as the politics and government of Canada and Scandinavia. He was a past president of the Northern California Political Science Association and a member of several professional organizations and the Saratoga Men's Club. He retired earlier this year.

Dr. Kunsman is survived by his cousins, Gordon Ruddell of Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ruddell of Saratoga, and Mr. and Mrs. Lupe Rodriguez of Saratoga.
