Scholarship winner
Lynn Wasserman, daughter of Gail and Sam Wasserman of Saratoga, and a 1996 graduate of Saratoga High School, was this year's recipient of the Saratoga Teachers Association's annual scholarship award in the amount of $750.
Wasserman will attend California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. She plans to major in education, economics or history.
Bachelor of science degree
Kathleen T. Biederman of Saratoga received a bachelor of science degree in nursing May 18 from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.
She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Biederman of Saratoga.
Saratoga students take honors
Two Saratoga students, Heather S. Carter, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert K. Carter, and Erik D. Schraga, son of Mrs. Robin L. Atherton, were named to the 1996 Spring Semester Dean's List of Emory College, the undergraduate, liberal arts college of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.
Students must earn a grade-point average of 3.31 or higher to be named to the Dean's List.
Graduating from Pomona College
Saratoga resident James Bernald received a bachelor of arts degree in politics during Pomona College's 103rd commencement on May 12 in Claremont.
Alumni Legacy Award
Anastasia Chantale Northrup, a 1996 graduate of Saratoga High School, has been awarded the $5,000 Alumni Legacy Award to attend DePauw University.
She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael E. Northrup of Saratoga.
Founded in 1837, De Pauw University is in Greencastle, Ind.
Graduating from Woodside Priory
Nathan Williams of Saratoga was among 29 young men and women graduating from Woodside Priory School May 25. Williams is an active member of the National Honor Society and editor of the school newspaper.
Abbott graduates with honors
Ryan Charles Abbott, son of Bob and Sheryl Abbott of Saratoga, graduated with honors from UC Berkeley on May 18. He received a double BS degree in mechanical engineering and materials sciences engineering. He will work for Hewlett Packard in San Diego. He will marry Tracy Dobson in San Diego on July 27.
Mulert named Fullbright Scholar
Jeff Mulert, 22, a 1992 Saratoga High School graduate, was named a Fulbright Scholar by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.
An associate member of Sigma Xi, the honorary research society, he graduated in May from Pomona College where he double-majored in biology and Spanish. He will spend this coming year in Mexico, researching maize/nitrogen-fixing bacteria symbiosis at the Instituto Tecnologico de Oaxaca.
