Karen Nagano to teach at Hakone
As part of the arts, crafts, wellness and cultural programs and workshops it offers to the community, Hakone Gardens, at 21000 Big Basin Way in Saratoga, presents a workshop by Karen Nagano on Aug. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Nagano is a professional painter and poet and a former Hakone artist-in-residence. She has designed her workshop, titled "Word and Image," to connect the powers of the word and the image into artwork that includes both poetry and painting. She will use the surrounding gardens at Hakone as inspiration, will share samples of her own past works and will discuss the Japanese concept of kanji, or word symbols, which are a kind of pictograph.
Space is limited; advance reservations are required. Fee is $60 per person; a materials list will be mailed to registrants. Call Nagano at 831.753.2618 or email derango@pacbell.net.
