Summer conservancy stages the musical 'Bye Bye Birdie'
The Performing Arts Company, a six-week summer conservatory program for children in grades 1 through 10, celebrates its 15th anniversary with three productions of Bye Bye Birdie, which will be performed later this month in Los Gatos High School's Prentiss Brown Auditorium, at 20 High School Court.
The musical's storyline revolves around rock & roll celebrity Conrad Birdie and unexpected complications that turn up when his agent arranges for him to appear on The Ed Sullivan Show, where he is to kiss one lucky girl before being drafted into the Army.
PAC, founded and directed by Laurel Perelman-Cohen, is one of numerous summer programs offered by the Jewish Community Center, at 14855 Oka in Los Gatos. PAC's mission is to strengthen children's creative and emotional development by using the theater to build self-esteem and communications skills. All staff members are experienced in the field of performing arts.
Bye Bye Birdie opens July 22 and closes July 27. Show dates and times vary, depending upon the three different casts, which are grouped by age: 5- to 8-year-olds, 9- to 11-year-olds and 12- to 15-year-olds. Tickets are $10 each. For tickets or more information, call 408.358.5908 or 408.358.5925.
