Lynbrook graduate serves as Ambassador of Goodwill

Lynbrook High School graduate Jennifer Mei-Yin Chang was named the 1998 California's Young Woman of Achievement on July 10 during the 18th annual California State Youth Accolades Scholarship Competition held in San Jose.

Chang, 17, was one of 18 women statewide competing for the position and for part of $15,000 in educational scholarships. Chang, who competed as Santa Clara County's Youth Hall of Fame Ambassador, won a $5,000 scholarship for her participation in the event, which focused on community service, scholastic achievement, personality and communicative skills and other accomplishments.

She will now serve as an Ambassador of Goodwill promoting the California State Fair throughout the year, as well as visiting the state's various agricultural, county and citrus fairs and numerous festivals held throughout California. In addition, Chang will speak at service clubs, high schools and other organizations upon request.

Chang is the daughter of Edmund and Janice Chang. She plans to attend UC-Berkeley and major in political science and communications.
