Saratoga NewsOn CampusTroop 508 has new Eagle Scouts Collin Mitchell and Matt Garappolo, both juniors at Saratoga High School, recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Both boys are members of Troop 508. Mitchell's project was to help renovate a halfway house in downtown San Jose. He repaired benches, installed a basketball hoop, repaired a fence and painted walls in the back of the house. Garappolo's project consisted of making three nature trail signs in Big Basin State park, each describing a different type of redwood tree. Teachers honored for Americanism West Valley Republican Women, Federated recently honored three teachers from Argonaut Elementary School with Americanism awards. The awards were given to teachers for encouraging appreciation of American values and traditions in their students. Diane Priest, Jolin Milberg and Mikki Jordan each received certificates of recognition for their work on an Americanism program presented by their students in honor of Flag Day. Former SHS grad becomes director Former 49ers cheerleader and Saratoga High School graduate Christy Wyant-Hernandez will direct the fourth Northern California Tap Workshop Aug. 11-15 at the Marie Stinnett Studios at the Campbell Community Center. The classes are open to add intermediate and advanced tap dancers and will be taught by Jeannie Hill and Diane Walker. The workshop will lead up to a second Rhythm on Tap performance at West Valley College Theater on Aug. 15. Faculty, musicians and special guest artists Fred Strickler and Sam Weber will perform in the celebration of rhythm, tap dancing and jazz music. Performance tickets for the 8 p.m. showing are $16 in advance, $18 at the door and $13 for groups of 10 or more. UC-Santa Barbara honors Saratogan UC-Santa Barbara recently named Bharat Pancholy to the dean's honors list for the spring quarter. Pancholy, a pre-biology major, had to maintain a 3.75 grade-point average or better while taking a least 12 units of classes to make the list.
