Saratoga NewsSaratoga News receives awardsThe Saratoga News earned two awards in the 1996 California Newspaper Publishers Association CNPA Better Newspapers Contest. The awards were announced July 19 in Monterey. Competing against weeklies with circulations of 4,300 to 11,001, the News grabbed a first-place award for a feature story by Cecily Barnes (now a Willow Glen Resident reporter) and second-place design honors for production manager Robin Mendez, who also received a first-place award for her work in the Los Gatos Weekly-Times. The Weekly-Times also received a second-place award for sports photography and a first place for editorial pages. In all the Metro Newspapers organization won 12 awards, including a second-place award for general excellence for the Cupertino Courier (circulation 11,001-25,000).
