Preston Wynne spa adds an upper level to facilityBy Michelle Alaimo Preston Wynne day spa recently completed an expansion, adding a second level to its facility at 14567 Big Basin Way. But the expansion, the third in 13 years, will probably be the last. Peggy Wynne Borgman, spa director and co-founder, said, "There will be no more expansions because we want to keep the quality and personal service we have maintained." "Anything beyond this size would be really hard to do," she said. Preston Wynne expanded from 2,000 square feet to 4,600 square feet, 1,000 of it office space, allowing the facility to serve up to 70 clients a day, up from some 40, Borgman said. The increased space and subsequent increase in business at the day spa brought about the hiring of 15 new employees, bringing its workforce to 50. The expanded area features three new esthetic rooms for facials and skin care; two new body rooms for massage therapy; shower and changing rooms; and a balcony that overlooks Big Basin Way. The spa has kept the colors neutral and nonfeminine in order to create a comfortable atmosphere for the men who make up 15 percent of the spa's clientele, Borgman said. "They have done an excellent job in providing an inviting, restful place," longtime client Cheryl Abbott said. Borgman said clients were concerned that the expansion would make the atmosphere in the spa less personal and relaxing. "Even though we are larger now, we still have a quaint, personal feeling," Borgman said. Abbott said she loves the cozy feeling of the spa. She has been visiting the facility every four to six weeks for a variety of treatments for almost 13 years. Along with the expansion came the addition of several new spa packages. Borgman said people are trying new things such as Spa Duetto, in which a couple can use the deep soaking tub and have a one-hour massage together. The couple also receive facial treatments and are served a private lunch with an optional makeup design. The 312 hour package costs $215 per person. Currently, couples make up 5 percent of the spa's clients, and Borgman hopes the Spa Duetto package will bring in more couples. The more popular packages are for massage and facial treatments, which many people use as stress relievers, Borgman said. A 45-minute massage starts at $60, while facials are priced at $75 and up.
