Council commends historian Peck
On July 19, the Saratoga City Council and the city's Heritage Preservation Commission thanked Willys Peck for his years of service by naming him the city's Historian. His term of office will last as long as he is willing and able, according to the city's proclamation.
Peck has long been recognized as the city's unofficial historian. He is a member of the Heritage Preservation Commission, vice president of the Saratoga Historical Foundation, he is on the board of the California History Center Foundation, and the board of the West Valley-Mission College's Foundation, the Phelan Library Committee at Villa Montalvo, and he is a columnist for the Saratoga News.
Norm Koepernik, chairman of the Heritage Preservation Commission, presented Peck with a plaque, which consisted of a miniature door with an old fashioned knob and a key, surmounted by a roof with copper on it.
"This is your Oscar," Koepernik said upon presenting it.
Peck said he thought he had reached his peak when he was proclaimed as the city's official town character.
