Saratoga NewsVillage BriefsShakespeare comes again to Saratoga Now in its second year, the Wildwood Shakespeare Festival has four plays--two by the Bard and two others--in production throughout the month of August.Twelfth Night involves fun, confusion, unrequited love and mistaken identity. Beauty and the Beast is a classic fairy tale about learning to love. Both plays take place in the Saratoga Civic Theater. Henry IV, Part I begins with the lusty antics of Falstaff and ends with the savagery of the battlefield. The Hobbit, performed by local youths, is a mystical tale of swords and sorcery from the Tolkein fantasy book series. Both take place in Wildwood Park. YSI safari features light, color, fire, ice The Youth Science Institute, which operates its nature centers, Science Safaris and day camps in three county parks, offers a program on the wonders of atmospheric optics on Aug. 8 from 7:30 to 10 p.m at its center in Vasona Lake County Park in Los Gatos. The interactive workshop, "Light, Color, Fire and Ice," is open to adults and children of all ages; those under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Joe Jordan, a NASA scientist, shows slides of unusual optic effects, explains and demonstrates phenomena such as rainbows, glories, sundogs, halos, coronae, aurorae, mirages and green flash and takes participants outside to point out little-known traits of the evening sky. Cost, for YSI members, is $8 for adults and $6 for children. Non-YSI members pay $10 for adults and $8 for children. For information, call 867-6940. Exchange program seeks host families The American Intercultural Student Exchange, a nonprofit educational foundation, is accepting applications from families interested in hosting a teenage student from among 40 foreign countries for one or two semesters of the upcoming school year. All students are proficient in English, have completed AISE's lengthy screening process and bring their own spending money and medical insurance.
