Howard recognized as tops in '96 sales

Barbara Howard of Coldwell Banker/Fox & Carskadon has just been recognized for being the top sales associate for listings sold in the first quarter of 1996 in Santa Clara County. She does most of her transactions in the Saratoga/Los Gatos area.

Howard has been in real estate for 18 years and has consistently been a top producer, according to Manager Robert Egan.

She has lived in Saratoga for seven years and in Los Gatos for 11 years.

Seville Properties opens new office

Seville Properties opened a new office in Saratoga on July 30 at 1200 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road.

The real estate firm hosted a sneak preview on July 17 on the site. Invitations were sent to Chamber of Commerce members, city officials and other local VIPs.

The building, formerly occupied by Innovest, a mortgage brokerage firm, is being completely remodeled, said Kirk Mahncke, Seville vice president and manager.

This is Seville's fourth office in this area. The 5,000-square-foot space will include offices for Seville's 37 sales agents and support staff.

Smith Barney helps Saratoga schools

The Saratoga Education Foundation has received $7,000 from Smith Barney as part of the company's local contributions program conducted at branches throughout the country.

The selection was made by David J. Perez, branch manager for Smith Barney's San Jose complex.

The Smith Barney funds will benefit the students of the Saratoga Union School District. The funds will be used to further implement a district-wide science and technology program called the Saratoga Creek Program. The contribution will also be used to update the computer lab at Redwood Middle School.

The initial selection of a local organization to receive funding is made by Smith Barney branch personnel. Applications are sent to the Traveler's Foundation in New York, a philanthropic arm of Smith Barney.

Saratoga National Bank reports earnings are up

Saratoga National Bank reported earnings are up for the three- and six-month periods ending June 30.

Net income for the quarter was $222,000, or 20 cents a share, up 10 percent from $201,000 for the same period in 1995. Net income for the six-month period was $424,000, or 39 cents per share, up 7 percent from $395,000 in 1995.

Assets on June 30 were $106,948,000, a 25 percent increase compared with $85,769,000 on June 30, 1995. Deposits were $81,499,000, a 16 percent increase. Net loans outstanding were $38,699,000, an increase of 13 percent.

Saratoga National Bank operates offices in Saratoga, Los Gatos and San Jose.

McEwan appointed director of design

Mary Ann McEwan of Saratoga has been appointed director of design and marketing for The Studio in Los Gatos, a retailer of furniture and state-of-the-art electronics designed for home theaters and home offices.

An interior designer and former president of the American Society of Interior Designers' California Peninsula Chapter, McEwan brings 12 years of interior design experience to her new position.

Prior to joining The Studio, Mc-Ewan owned her own design business and, most recently, she was an account executive for Lindsay Ferrari, a contract furniture firm in San Jose.

McEwan is a California-certified interior designer and she holds a master's degree in business administration.
