Swim Championships
All eyes were focused on the swimming competition last week when the Olympic Games opened in Atlanta.
But Santa Clara will be the center of swimming activity for future Olympians later this week when the U.S. Swimming/Speedo Junior Championship West is held Aug. 1-5 at the International Swim Center.
Jeremy Kane and Danielle Lux of Los Gatos, Philip Yoshida of Sunnyvale and Rebecca Shephard of Saratoga will be among the more than 1,000 athletes competing in the meet that features the top young swimmers, ages 14-17, from west of the Mississippi.
"Every one of those swimmers out there has a dream to one day compete in the Olympics," meet director John Lux said. "In order to do that, however, you have to keep improving your time so you can move into the next category. That's what this meet is about."
For more information on the meet, call 246-5050.
