    Saratoga finishes strong

When the Saratoga Little League major division all-stars wrapped up the 2001 season with a fourth-place finish in the District 12 tournament, it marked the culmination of an impressive run for this group of young baseball players.

Saratoga posted a 3-2 record in the district tournament this summer at Quito, losing 3-2 to finalist Lincoln Glen to face elimination.

Many members of this year's club played for the Saratoga 8-year-old team that won the district tourney championship four years ago, says coach Bob DeBarr,

"It's important to acknowledge how well they have done over the years," said DeBarr of the major division squad. "This year's tournament was similar to the last couple as the Saratoga team went five games only to lose a close one-run ballgame."

Saratoga was eliminated after a 3-2 loss to Lincoln Glen. Augie Lagemann blasted a long home run and Sam Twombly tossed a complete game, but Saratoga lost a heartbreaker to the Glenners.

Members of the Saratoga all-star team were Augie Lagemann, Sam Twombly, Bubba Durket, Angelo Caloiaro, Bennett Rothenberg, Greg Justice, Alex Lagemann, Bo Nielson, Jeff DeBarr, Scott Darchuk, Greg Schuck, and John McCready.

The Saratoga all-stars were managed by Matt Durket and coached by John Nielson and DeBarr.
