The council ultimately has to approve the element in order for the update to become part of the city's general plan.
Waterway protection tax on Nov. ballot
A 15-year parcel tax to finance ecosystem improvements in Santa Clara County creeks and the San Francisco Bay will be placed on the November ballot by the Santa Clara Valley Water District (SCVWD).
The tax, which amounts to $39 a year for the average homeowner, would replace an assessment approved by voters in the 1980s that has expired.
If approved, the tax will fund SCVWD's Clean, Safe Creeks and Natural Flood Protection Plan. The plan includes increasing urban runoff prevention measures, vegetation management to restore fisheries and riparian habitats, a number of flood-related capital improvements and partnerships with local governments to provide trails and open space.
City holds second meeting on park
Saratoga's Parks and Recreation Commission will hold another meeting on the proposed renovations and improvements to Congress Springs Park on Aug. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Adult Day Care Center on Allendale Avenue.
The commission held the first meeting on July 10, to receive public input on the project. The project entails increasing the number of playfields at the park and improving the safety there. The city has hired an architect to produce design drawings for the park.
The Aug. 7 meeting will be another opportunity for interested citizens to give feedback on the project to the city.
