    SJ Memory Post places second

    The San Jose Memory Post lost two straight games to Monta Vista to wind up in second place in the "A" division of the American Legion baseball league.

    Memory Post, made up mostly of players from Leigh, Westmont, Prospect and St. Lawrence Academy, needed to take two of three games from Monta Vista, but lost the first game in the series 12-1 and dropped the second 5-4 in eight innings.

    Over 45 Basketball

    San Jose is accepting registration for teams interested in playing in a fall basketball league for players ages 45 and over. For more information, call 277-5556.

    Frog Jog

    The Frog Jog 10K run and 5K run/walk will be held Aug. 8, 9 a.m., at the Academy of Sciences in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. The entry fee is $20. For more information on the event, check the Frog Jog Web site at www.frogjog.org or call 733-7931.

    Tennis Tourney

    A tennis tournament for players in the 12-and-under, 14-and-under, 16-and-under and 18-and-under age groups will be held Aug. 7 at San Jose State University. The cost for the round-robin tournament is $12 per player. For more information, call 924-1249.

    Youth Ice Hockey

    The Santa Clara Valley Hockey Association Blackhawks have announced that tryouts will begin Aug. 6 for players ages 6-18. For more information, check their website at www.blackhawks.org or call 450-2888.

    Girls Basketball

    A girls three-on-three basketball tournament for players in grades 6-12 will be held Aug. 14-15 at Stanford University. The entry fee is $175, and each team is guaranteed eight games. For more information, call 1-650-725-7193.

    Blazers Tryouts

    The Sunnyvale Blazers, a girls 14-and-under A softball team, will host tryouts for the fall and summer teams on Aug. 14 and 21, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at Homestead High School.
