Santa Clara County has established a Domestic Violence Protective Order Registry, which will protect domestic violence victims countywide. The registry will be a central clearinghouse for all protective orders.
Ultimately, the program will provide deputy sheriffs to serve civil protective orders countywide, probation officers to resolve conflicts, and fax machines to allow victims to obtain orders without entering a courthouse.
"The creation of a central registry begins this county's war against domestic violence, which is one of the fastest growing crimes in the county," said Supervisor Ron Gonzales, chair of the crime task force.
