Motorists on Saratoga Avenue are running an obstacle course of orange cones and heavy machinery these days with all the construction work being done between Highway 85 and the Village.
San Jose Water Co. began replacing an old water main on the road Aug. 5. The main stretches between La Paloma Avenue and Crestbrook Drive, and the entire replacement project will take contractor West Valley Construction Co. six to eight weeks to complete, according to Erman Dorsey, a senior engineering technician with the city.
This stretch of road is to remain open to traffic, but there will be delays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily during construction. A water main is also being replaced on Horseshoe Drive.
Further down Saratoga Avenue, toward the freeway, construction crews are working on median modifications along the road and a new signal at Scotland Drive. At the Fruitvale Avenue intersection, they are constructing a new right-turn lane and moving the crosswalk to the south side of the intersection.
