Saratoga wins financial award
The city's CAFR, the comprehensive annual financing report for the fiscal year which just ended June 30, qualified for a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. This certificate is the highest form of recognition in government accounting and financial reporting.
The award was presented to the city's director of administrative services, Mary Jo Walker, and to Ray Galindo, accounting supervisor, at the city council meeting Aug. 2.
Winery hearing set for Aug. 15
The public hearing on the appeal of the Mountain Winery's use permit has been scheduled for Aug. 15. The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors will hear the appeal in its chambers at 70 West Hedding St. in San Jose. The time of the hearing will likely be 2 p.m., according to John Brazil in Supervisor Joe Simitian's office. The time will be listed on the board's agenda, available online at santaclaracounty.org/mtgs_2000.htm on the Friday before the meeting.
Waltonsmith to be liaison to SUSD
The Saratoga City Council appointed Councilwoman Ann Waltonsmith as the city council liaison to the Saratoga Union School District, at its July 19 meeting.
The council and the SUSD board of trustees agreed at a joint meeting on July 11, to each appoint a liaison to meet quarterly, or more often, to communicate and work together on issues concerning current expansion projects at both Redwood Middle School and Saratoga School.
Mayor Stan Bogosian said he hopes the city can expand this idea to include other school districts in the future.
The July 11 meeting was originally scheduled at the request of council members, who became upset when the district approved cutting down a 100-year-old eucalyptus tree in May, as part of renovation and expansion plans at Saratoga School. In doing so, the district violated the terms of a Cooperation Agreement it had with the city.
The council asked to schedule the joint meeting to foster a dialogue between the city and the district and ensure mutual understanding of city and district concerns.
