Saratoga NewsBusiness BriefTheater named after generous local couple The Tech Museum of Innovation paid tribute to Mike and Joan Hackworth of Saratoga on July 23 at a special ceremony officially naming the museum's new IMAX theater the Hackworth IMAX Dome Theater. According to Peter Giles, president and CEO of the Tech, the Hackworths gave the first $1 million gift to the capital campaign during its early stages, when no individuals were lead donors. "This is a way to thank them for their optimism, vision and leadership," Giles said. The ceremony took place at the IMAX construction site at Market Street and Park Avenue in San Jose. During the ceremony, a good-luck gnome was attached to a steel beam at the top of the dome. A reception to honor the entire campaign team was held at the Fairmont Hotel in downtown San Jose. The 299-seat IMAX Dome Theater is part of the new 132,000-square-foot museum scheduled to open in fall of 1998. Construction of the new theater cost $86 million. The theater will be the only domed IMAX theater in Northern California.
