Parks Commission recommends ban on alcohol at Quito Park
The Saratoga Parks and Recreation Commission is recommending that the city prohibit the
consumption of alcohol in El Quito Park on Paseo Presada, following complaints from nearby residents of large, drunken parties in the park.
Currently, there are no city ordinances that prohibit the use of alcohol in city parks, Parks Superintendent Bob Rizzo said.
Residents complained about two occasions in July, when about 150 rowdy people descended upon El Quito Park. "They were drinking all day, playing loud music, and there were reports of card playing and money passed," Rizzo said.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department has agreed to step up patrols to the park, Rizzo said. The City Council will take up the issue of alcohol control at its Sept. 10 meeting.
