Church invites the community to Bible study
The Saratoga Presbyterian Church, at 20455 Herriman Ave., in conjunction with an international, interdenominational program called Community Bible Study, begins a Bible study series for adults of all ages, as well as teenagers.
This year, the studies include Joshua, Judges, Ruth and Samuel I and II; the theme is "Servants of God." All members of the community are welcome. The church holds an introductory coffee on Aug. 28, at 7:30 p.m. The study sessions will be held every Monday, at 7:30 p.m. For more information, call Nancy at 408.741.5696.
Beth David holds reception
Congregation Beth David, a conservative synagogue at 19700 Prospect Road in Saratoga, is planning a welcoming Friday night Shabbat (Sabbath) service and Oneg Shabbat reception for Sept. 8, at 8 p.m. The congregation invites anyone interested in learning more about Beth David to attend the event. All ages are welcome.
Following the service is the Oneg reception, which includes coffee and homemade desserts. It also provides a time for prospective and new members to meet with Rabbi Daniel Pressman, Cantor Hazzan Fine, Board President Margie Pomerantz and other congregants and board members. Auditions for plays coming to West Valley
The Theater Arts Department at West Valley College, 14000 Fruitvale Ave. in Saratoga, seeks actors, singers, dancers, musicians and technicians for two of its upcoming productions: a performance of Terrence McNally's Bad Habits and a musical version of J.R.R. Tolkein's The Hobbit .
Bad Habits, which will run Oct. 20-29, has openings for 12 men and four women. The Hobbit , which has openings for 25 actors of various ages and one child, is based on the adventures of Bilbo Baggins.
Cold reading auditions for both shows take place on Aug. 28 and 29, at 7 p.m. in the West Valley Campus Center. Call backs are Aug. 30 and 31, at 7 p.m. For more information, call 408.741.2058.
