    Labor Day Basketball

The Labor Day Invitational, a basketball tournament for boys and girls in grades 6-8 and high school junior varsity players, will be held Sept. 10-12 at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills.

Age divisions include grade 6 (12-and-under), grade 7 (13-and-under), grade 8 (14-and-under) and junior varsity. The tournament is open to school, club and traveling teams.

The cost is $250 per team, and there is a three-game guarantee. The registration deadline is Aug. 22.

For more information, e-mail the Basketball Academy at jblev64198@aol.com or call Jeffrey Blevins at 281-2421.

    Cal Football

Fans of UC-Berkeley football are invited to the Cal Football FunFest on Aug. 22, noon to 3 p.m., at Kleeberger Field, next to Memorial Stadium on the Cal campus.

There will be a cheerleading clinic, food, games and autograph sessions. For more information on the free event, call 1-510-642-2444.

    Girls Soccer Clinic

The Silicon Valley Sting will host a girls soccer clinic Aug. 27-29, three hours each day, in Palo Alto. The cost for the entire clinic is $75, or players can pay $30 per day. For more information, call Gregg Witkin at 374-1312.

    Soccer Camp

The San Jose Clash spent most of July on the road, but will return home to play three of four games in August at Spartan Stadium.

And that's not just good news for Major League Soccer fans, but all for area age group soccer players.

Because while they're home, Clash players will be in the area to host a youth soccer camp for local players at Congress Springs Park in Saratoga.

The Clash and the Saratoga AYSO will host the MLS Camp on Aug. 23-27, 9 a.m.-noon each day, for players ages 7-18. The cost is $100 per player.

Each camper receives an individual player evaluation, a gift from MLS, a free companion ticket to a Clash game, an official league soccer ball and an MLS camp T-shirt. Parents and coaches are also welcome at the camps.

For information, contact the league's website at www.saratoga-ayso.org, the MLS website at www.nasc.com or call Bobbi Eisenberg at 252-0500.
