Saratoga NewsNews BriefsSaratoga Lions get a new president The Saratoga Lions Club has chosen a new president, longtime resident Frank Lemmon, for the 1998-99 year. Lemmon is familiar with Lions leadership, having previously served as first vice president, program chairman, fundraising chairman and school awards chairman for the local Lions. In the workforce, Lemmon held a variety of executive positions in the aerospace industry. He is also currently a member of the Saratoga Public Safety Commission, the Association of Old Crows--an international electronic defense organization--and the Masons. Planners to meet with Council The Saratoga Planning Commission will hold a joint meeting with the Saratoga City Council Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. Tentatively planned for the agenda are such topics as budgeting for a minutes clerk for the commission and a discussion about transmission antennas. However, other issues could still be added to the agenda. The meeting is the second of two planned for this year between the council and the commission. Class offers tips on composting The city of Saratoga, in coordination with the Santa Clara County Home Composting Education Program, is sponsoring a free workshop. Master composters from the county-sponsored program will conduct a class on how to turn yard waste and food scraps into garden gold, and lawn clippings into yard fertilizer. "Composting Basics" will be held from Saturday, Aug. 15, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Saratoga Community Center, located at 19655 Allendale Ave. To register, call 299-4147. LWV will discuss initiative process The League of Women Voters of Los Gatos-Saratoga-Monte Sereno plans to hold two meetings to discuss the initiative and referendum process. The discussion and consensus meetings are scheduled for Sept. 15 at 1:30 p.m. at member Kay Eshelman's home in Monte Sereno and Sept. 24 at 9:30 a.m. at member Marlene Duffin's home in Saratoga.
