Saratoga NewsObituariesSister Mary McGinnity Sister Mary Raphael McGinnity, O.P., died July 4 at Our Lady of Fatima Villa in Saratoga. She was 93. McGinnity was born Sept. 4, 1903, in County Down, Ireland. She had been a member of the Dominican Sisters of Saint Catherine of Siena in Kenosha, Wis., for 75 years. An anesthetist registered nurse with a specialty in obstetrical nursing, McGinnity also served as Prioress of Sacred Heart Convent in Hanford, Calif., and later at Our Lady of Fatima Convent in Saratoga. Survivors include sister-in-law Kathleen McGinnity of Aberdeen, N.J.; nephew Thomas Denis McGinnity; nieces Bernadette McGinnity Shea, Theresa McGinnity McConnville and Regina McGinnity Holland; and 20 great-nieces and nephews. Memorial services and funeral mass have been held, with interment at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery. Elizabeth Spottswood Elizabeth "Liz" Spottswood died at the age of 60 July 9 at her Saratoga residence. Born in Toledo, Ohio, Spottswood graduated from the University of Toledo, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Shortly after graduation, she moved to the Los Angeles area, where she began a career teaching typing and shorthand. She and husband Douglas married in December 1964 and lived in Sacramento and Los Angeles and in several other states over the course of about two decades. In 1986, the family settled in Saratoga, where Spottswood was active in the Saratoga-Los Gatos Newcomers organization. She also served in the San Jose Symphony Auxiliary and the Reach to Recovery program. During her battle with cancer, Spottswood found strength and solace through her church, her Bible study group and her love of music. Survivors include husband Douglas N. Spottswood of Saratoga; daughter Joan Rousseau of Paris, France; son Douglas D. Spottswood of Los Angeles; brother Samuel Szor of Toledo, Ohio; and sisters Joanne Szor of Cypress and Joyce Szor of Garden Grove. Memorial services have been held. Nancy Crawford Nancy Crawford, a native of Georgia, died of natural causes on July 29. She was 79. Crawford worked as a bookkeeper for Bell Aircraft, and she was an active member of Saratoga Federated Church. She is survived by daughter-in-law Mary Crawford; grandchildren Nancy Crawford of Santa Clara, Jimmy Crawford of Florida, Jon Crawford of San Jose and Stephen Crawford of Atascadero; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held Aug. 4 at the Saratoga Federated Church.
