Phone customers can dial for school dollars

Sprint has become part of a program which allows its customers to donate a percentage of their residential phone bill to schools located in Saratoga.

Customers can call 800/233-6080 to register their existing Sprint account or to switch to Sprint and participate in the program. Consumers will then get a school ID number for the school of their choice. A percentage of their long-distance phone bill will then automatically be donated to the school of the consumer's choice.

Saratoga schools to choose from include St. Andrew's School, Blue Hills Elementary School, McAuliffe Elementary School, Argonaut Elementary School, Saratoga High School, Foothill Elementary School, Sacred Heart School, Redwood Middle School, Marshall Lane Elementary School and Saratoga Elementary School.

Three Saratoga grads honored by auxiliary

Lekna Rao of Saratoga High School, Aarthi Ven Katesan of Prospect High School and John Kim of Lynbrook High School, all recent graduates, each received a $2,000 scholarship from the Auxiliary of Community Hospital of Los Gatos.

Rao's scholarship will go toward tuition at Johns Hopkins University. Van Katesan will attend UCLA and Kim will attend UC-Berkeley this fall. All three students said they plan to pursue a career in the medical profession.
