The entry fee is $180, and proceeds benefit the golf programs at local high schools and at San Jose City College. The tournament is named for the former PGA star who grew up in San Jose and starred as a prep golfer for James Lick, playing at that same San Jose Country Club. Volleyball Workshop San Jose Inner-City Games will host a free volleyball workshop for players ages 7-17 on Aug. 23, noon-4 p.m., on the south campus of SJSU, 10th Street and Alma Avenue. For information, call 871-9500. '49er Special' Going to a San Francisco 49ers game? Why not leave the car at home? The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority is making that possible by providing direct bus service to all home games. Buses will depart the Capitol Light Rail Station in San Jose at 10:05 a.m.; Kmart on Fruitdale in San Jose at 10:25 a.m.; Stevens Creek and Finch (tandem) in Cupertino at 10:40 a.m.; and VTA/River Oaks in San Jose at 10:50 a.m. for 1 p.m. games (departure times are 3:05 p.m., 3:25 p.m., 3:40 p.m., and 3:50 p.m., respectively, for 6 p.m. games). The fare is $13 for a round-trip ticket ($6.50 one way), and a season pass can be purchased in advance for $80. Buses arrive at the stadium 30 minutes before game time and depart 20 minutes after the end of the game. For information, call 321-2300. Flag Football Third and Long Sports will host the Red Zone II four-on-four flag football tournament on Sept. 13 at Independence High School in San Jose. The entry fee is $100 per team, and all teams are guaranteed a minimum of two games. All participants receive a T-shirt, and prizes will be awarded to the winning teams.
