Villa Montalvo presents a combined Open Studio and reading with a gallery reception on Tue., Sept. 10 from 6 to 9 p.m.
The studios of two resident visual artists, Austin Thomas and Gronk, and the gallery, which will have the paintings of Sylvia Sussman on view, will be open from 6 to 8 p.m.
Writer Claudia Ricci and poet Suzanne Wise will read from their works, and concert pianist Lisa Spector will play a recording of one of her performances at 8 p.m. in the Villa.
Villa Montalvo's artists-in-residence program brings approximately 35 artists to the South Bay each year from around the world to create new artwork in a nurturing and inspiring setting.
Thomas is a multimedia artist who has shown her work internationally. She will work on a series of drawings and paintings of rocks and minerals executed on old dress patterns during her residence.
Gronk, a painter and performer from Los Angeles, who is collaborating with the Kronos Quartet at Montalvo on Sept. 20, was recently a creative consultant for Disney Studios' Fantasia II.
Writer Claudia Ricci, who has worked both as a journalist for the Wall Street Journal and a writing instructor, will work on her novel, Castenata, set in California in the late 1880s.
Suzanne Wise, who has received numerous awards for her poetry, will revise her manuscript, Adult Life, at Montalvo.
Concert pianist Spector, who has performed internationally, will prepare to record the piano work of Amy Beach, an American composer who lived at the turn of the century.
Villa Montalvo is at 15400 Montalvo Road, off Highway 9.
