Long drive contest draws big hitters
The big hitters will be on the tees at the Pin High Family Golf Center in San Jose for the Long Drive District Finals on Aug. 24, 10 a.m.
Drives of more than 350 yards were needed to make the district finals, and the San Jose winner will advance to the national finals in Las Vegas on Sept. 6-11 to vie for a $150,000 purse.
Spectators are welcome. The Pin High Family Golf Center is located at 4701 N. First St. For more information, call 934-1111.
Men's Basketball
Saratoga will host a men's 45-and-over basketball league this fall. League play begins Sept. 5 and games will be played Thursdays between 7-10 p.m. at the Saratoga High School gym. The cost is $44 for Saratoga residents and $49 for non-residents. For more information, call 867-3438, ext. 234.
Bicycle Tours
The Clean Air Bicycle Challenge, co-sponsored by the Los Gatos Kiwanis Club and the American Lung Association, will be held Sept. 14 with tours starting from Los Gatos High School.
Tours feature loops of 20-miles, 50-kilometers, 100-kilometers and 100-miles. The registration fee runs from $10-$20, and families are welcome.

Youth Ice Hockey
The Santa Clara Valley Hockey Association will hold tryouts for players ages 6-17 beginning Sept. 3.
The league is currently holding ice hockey skills clinics on Sundays through the end of August at Iceoplex in Fremont.
Mites and squirts are on the ice from 10:40-11:40 a.m. with the pee wees, bantams and midgets in action from 11:50 a.m.-12:50 p.m.

Soccer Signups
Fall registration is now being accepted for the Saratoga AYSO youth soccer program. The registration fee is $80 per player and parents must accept a volunteer job in the program.
New players must provide a birth certificate, and all players must provide the names and phone numbers of their doctors and emergency contacts.
