    Sheriff's Report

Burglary (Car Window Smashed)--Aug. 13, 11:15 a.m. on Via Arriba. The victim parked and locked his car the night before at 10:30 p.m. At about 9 a.m. the next day, he saw that someone had broken out the driver's side rear window. Glass was shattered inside and out. The person(s) had stolen a $35 black backpack from the backseat. The backpack had been sitting in plain view and had contained various gym clothes. The sheriff's office determined that the incident was a "grab and run." No one saw or heard any suspects. Nothing else was stolen or damaged.

Found Property for Safekeeping--Aug. 12, 7:35 p.m. on Saratoga Avenue. A city of Saratoga firefighter reported that an anonymous citizen found a wallet in El Quito Park. The firefighter gave the officer the wallet, which contained $2 in U.S. currency, to book for safekeeping. The officer was unable to find a phone number inside the wallet to call the owner, so he booked it into the evidence locker at the substation.

Forgery--Aug. 11, 2:30 p.m. on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. The officer was dispatched to a convenience store. Store personnel reported that a stolen check was cashed July 26. Although the suspect has been identified, he has not been contacted for his statement.

Driver in Possession of Marijuana--Aug. 11, 12 p.m. on Highway 85. The officer stopped a southbound car for expired registration. When the officer approached the car, he smelled burned marijuana. He saw a plastic baggie that contained marijuana residue in the center console of the car, and a glass pipe and bowl that contained burned and unburned marijuana. He cited and released the driver and gave him a traffic court date. The officer booked the marijuana as evidence.

Vandalism--Aug. 8, 10:35 p.m. on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. Unknown suspects set a shopping cart on fire. An anonymous reporting party saw juveniles fleeing the area. The officer contacted the store manager, who requested a report to document the incident. Saratoga Fire District firefighters extinguished the fire.
