Kay Duffy to show her art

Saratoga resident and prolific painter Kay Duffy will exhibit impressionist watercolor paintings of California landscapes, flowers and other images, as well as abstract collages, Aug. 28 through Sept. 23 at Aegis Gallery of Fine Art, 14531 Big Basin Way, unit 2. Many of the California scenes were painted on location in the mountains, the wine country, the coast and the local community.

An artist's reception takes place Aug. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. Call 408.867.0171 or visit www.aegisgallery.com on the Internet.

    Pet Network needs help

The Pet Network, a nonprofit pet rescue and placement organization based in Saratoga, seeks some generous people to help fill various needs.

The top priority in terms of adoptions, according to network staffers, is a young German shepherd/Shar-Pei mix named Goldie. She likes dogs, cats, birds and children, and enjoys walks and car rides. Her foster parents will soon be moving out of state, which is why the network hopes to find her a permanent home.

The network also seeks volunteers to help run weekly pet fairs, organize fundraisers and work on mailings and web pages. Donations of pet food, bedding, collars, toys, carriers and other items are always appreciated, as are applications by new foster parents.

Call 408.450.2452 or visit www.petnetwk.org on the Internet.

    Healthy cooking classes planned

The Good Samaritan Hospital chapter of the National Association of Senior Friends offers a program titled Low-Fat, High-Taste Heart-Healthy Cooking on Aug. 29 at the hospital, 2425 Samaritan Drive at the San Jose/Los Gatos border. A cholesterol screening takes place at 6:30 p.m., following by the 7 p.m. program, in which a hospital nutritionist will share fast, easy and healthy recipes.

Anyone 50 or older is welcome to join Senior Friends. Membership is $15 per year and includes a variety of activities, some free and some with a small fee. These include exercise programs, health workshops, movie matinees, theater trips and mature driving courses. Call 408.559.2555.
