Local Fencers Stab Medals
Martin Lee of Saratoga, Ann Sidenblad of Cupertino and Eric Durante of Los Gatos were among the medal-winners from the California Fencing Academy when the local club competed in the Summer National Championships in Charlotte, N.C.
Lee, 15, won the Division II senior men's epee title, becoming the first ever national champion from the Los Gatos-based CFA.
Joining the gold-medal winner on the victory stand were Durante, who won a silver in the youth 14 epee, and Sidenblad, who took the bronze in the Division III women's foil.
Rhiannon Cherf of Boulder Creek won three national medals, including a silver in the youth 12 foil.
Josh Lepold of Los Gatos earned a place in the national top 10 in his age group.
Labor Day Basketball
The Labor Day Invitational, a basketball tournament for boys and girls in grades 6-8 and high school junior varsity players, will be held Sept. 10-12 at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills.
Divisions include grade 6 (12-and-under), grade 7 (13-and-under), grade 8 (14-and-under) and junior varsity, and the tournament is open to school, club and traveling teams.
The cost is $250 per team and there is a three-game guarantee.

San Jose is accepting registration for teams interested in playing in a six-game fall basketball league. The registration fee is $340 per team. For more information, call 277-5556.

Soccer Tournament
The second annual Los Gatos Cats Classic, a boys select soccer tournament hosted by the Los Gatos United Soccer League, will be held Aug. 29-30 on fields at Fisher, Van Meter and Union schools.
The tourney will feature 24 teams competing in the boys under-10, under-11 and under-14 age divisions. Call 395-7464.
