Saratoga artists' group hosts an art show and sale
The Saratoga Contemporary Artists invites the public to Art in the Garden, a juried art show and art sale to be held Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the gardens of a private Saratoga estate. The show includes paintings in all media from members of both the SCA and the Los Gatos Art Association. Accomplished multimedia artist Gerald Boyd will award ribbons to the winners. Framed and unframed works and artistic notecards will be available for purchase. Refreshments will be served. There is no charge to attend. Call 867-1180 for directions or more information.
Montalvo adds performances to its series line-up
Villa Montalvo has added four performances to its 1999-2000 Performing Arts Series. Word for Word, which acts out short works of fiction, performs "A Night in Eden" on Sept. 23.; rock band Fairport Convention plays Oct. 28; jazz keyboardist Keiko Matsui plays on Nov. 16 and 17; and up-tempo pianist Judy Carmichael appears on Jan. 23. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; ticket prices range from $20 to $32.50.
Proceeds from concerts benefit Montalvo's Children's Education Outreach, and Artist Residency Program, The Gallery at Montalvo and literary arts activities. For more information on the Performing Arts Series, call 961-5858 or visit www.villamontalvo.org on the Internet.
Churches welcome community to a new Bible study
Two local churches invite all interested persons to Community Bible Study, an international, interdenominational study program with more than 17,000 members of all ages and backgrounds. This year's focus will be on the Book of John. The Saratoga Presbyterian Church, 20455 Herriman Ave., hosts an introductory coffee on Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m. The study groups will have two meeting times: Mondays at 7:30 p.m. in the church's Fireside Room or Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. at Westgate Community Church, 1735 Saratoga Ave. Call 741-5696 for evening class information; 255-3203 for day class information.
