Public hearings continue at next council meeting

The Saratoga City Council will hold two public hearings on Sept. 2 that were continued from earlier dates. The council will take public input on whether the city should establish an underground utility district, and hold a hearing on the Vessing Road Assessment District, which seeks to improve Vessing Road and make related improvements. The council meeting will be held at the Civic Theater on Fruitvale Avenue at 7:30 p.m.

Council seeks commissioners

The Saratoga City Council is searching for interested residents to fill two vacancies on the Library Commission, one on the Parks and Recreation Committee and one vacancy on the Finance Commission. Applicants will be interviewed by councilmembers after they have attended a meeting of the commission they are interested in.

The Library Commission meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Saratoga Community Library. The Parks and Recreation committee meets on the first Monday each month at 7:30 p.m. and the Finance Commission meets on the second Monday each month at 7:30 p.m.

Deadlines are Sept. 4 at 5 p.m. for the Library Commission and Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. for the Parks and Recreation Commission and the Finance Commission. Any Saratoga resident, age 18 or older, may apply to be on one of the advisory committees to the City Council. Applications are available from City Hall. For information call 868-1269.

SOS: Parks Dept. seeking volunteers

Thanks to winter storms and litter from heavy park use, the streams in the county are in need of help, so the Santa Clara County Parks Department is looking for volunteers who want to "Save Our Streams" on Coastal Cleanup Day, Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The department, along with the Creek Connections Action Group, is looking for help removing litter and debris from the Coyote Creek Trail in south San Jose; Lexington Reservoir County Park outside Los Gatos; and Stevens Creek County Park above Cupertino. Call 354-6583.
