Saratoga NewsNews BriefsPark Place homes go before Planning Commission An application to construct three new two-story homes on land behind the Saratoga Foothill Club goes before the Saratoga Planning Commission Wed., Sept. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers, located at 13777 Fruitvale Ave. The Park Place property has been occupied for years by a single home, but Planning Department officials said the land actually comprises three lots of record. County stops painting, but no decision made The painting has stopped and the county has been notified, but no decision has been made on what to do about the Saratoga Community Library paint job. Interim City Manager Larry Perlin said city and county officials are scheduled to meet in the next few weeks to try to figure out a way to rectify the situation. The City Council asked the county earlier this month to cease painting the library when councilmembers discovered the stain being used to paint the weathered library was a thick, dark brick red, a color they say they were never asked to approve. The county, which leases the building from the city, told the city it was making plans to give the library a new coat of stain, but councilmembers said that was the last they heard of it-- until complaints started coming in to the city manager's office about the natural wood siding of the library being covered up. Miller Avenue study might get funding The Saratoga City Council is scheduled to discuss funding for a traffic study on Miller Lane at its meeting Tue., Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. in the senior day-care room of the community center on Allendale Road. Miller Avenue residents said they have complained for years to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department and to city officials about the speed and volume of cars along the residential road, but to no avail. Commuters, residents claim, use the road as a shortcut between Cox Avenue and Prospect Road. The council agreed June 10 to look into the issue and consider a traffic study for the street.
