Obituaries

David Howell

David Brian Howell of Saratoga died July 24 at Columbia Good Samaritan Hospital of a respiratory illness. He was 36.

Born June 7, 1961, in San Francisco, Howell moved with his family to Saratoga when he was a young boy. A graduate of Saratoga High School, Howell studied at DeAnza College and San Jose State University. He was employed for the past 20 years as a clerk at the Safeway store in Argonaut Shopping Center.

Howell enjoyed snow- and water-skiing, the ocean, the wonders of nature and cooking. He collected fine wines and coffees and recently compiled three cookbooks that were sold at Safeway to raise funds for the Easter Seals.

Family and friends remember him as "an outgoing, friendly man who always enjoyed doing for other people."

Survivors are parents Bob and Barbara Howell of Saratoga; sister and brother-in-law Suzi and Brian Hellwege; and many cousins.

Memorial services have been held, with interment at Madronia Cemetery. Donations may be made to a favorite charity.

Walter Lagerstrom

Saratoga resident Walter Lagerstrom died in Los Gatos on July 28 at the age of 100.

Lagerstrom was born April 7, 1897, in Oakland and was the owner of Lagerstrom Lighting. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Free Masons of San Jose & Crow Canyon, Free and Accepted Masons #569.

Wife Lelia Lagerstrom predeceased him in 1980. Lagerstrom is survived by sons Donald of Saratoga and William of Pleasanton; grandchildren Carol Stormo, Stacy Jacobs, Kimberly Lagerstrom and James Gold; and great-grandchildren Ashley and Autumn Jacobs and Casey and Kurrie Gold.

Memorial services have been held, with interment at Madronia Cemetery.
