Saratoga NewsSports BriefsRoller Hockey A roller hockey tournament is slated for Sept. 20-21 at the Roosevelt Rink in San Jose for players in the pee wee (14-under) and bantam (17-under) divisions. Maltbie Classic The annual Roger Maltbie Classic golf tournament returns to San Jose Country Club on Sept. 5. The entry fee is $180, and proceeds benefit the golf programs at local high schools and at San Jose City College. The tournament is named for the former PGA star who grew up in San Jose and starred as a prep golfer for James Lick, playing at that same San Jose Country Club. The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority is making that possible by providing direct bus service to all home games. Buses will depart the Capitol Light Rail Station in San Jose at 10:05 a.m.; Kmart on Fruitdale in San Jose at 10:25 a.m.; Stevens Creek and Finch (Tandem) in Cupertino at 10:40 a.m.; and VTA/River Oaks in San Jose at 10:50 a.m. for 1 p.m. games (departure times are 3:05 p.m., 3:25 p.m., 3:40 p.m., and 3:50 p.m., respectively, for 6 p.m. games). The fare is $13 for a round-trip ticket ($6.50 one way), and a season pass can be purchased in advance for $80. For information, call 321-2300. Flag Football Third and Long Sports will host the Red Zone II four-on-four flag football tournament on Sept. 13 at Independence High School in San Jose.
