League holds wine-tasting

The League of Women Voters of Los Gatos-Saratoga-Monte Sereno is hosting a Western Wine-Tasting Wingding on Sept. 7 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Cooper-Garrod Estate Vineyards, located at 22600 Mt. Eden Road.

For $25 per person, participants receive two glasses of award-winning wine as well as appetizers. There will also be an auction featuring art by local artists, season tickets to Opera San José and a week-long trip to Mexico. Proceeds benefit the work and projects of the League of Women Voters.

Sacred Heart holds its annual picnic

The Sacred Heart Parish in Saratoga is holding its annual parish picnic on Sept. 14 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the grounds of the Sacred Heart Church, 13724 Saratoga Ave. The picnic, which has a Western theme, includes a barbecue lunch, music and other entertainment and is open to the public.

The picnic also kicks off the parish's RENEW program, which gives parish members and interested individuals the opportunity to get better acquainted through small groups. The groups will make arrangements to meet and hold Bible studies together. For information, call 867-3634.

Nominees sought for women's award

The Women's Fund is now accepting nominations for its 22nd annual Women of Achievement Awards and Dinner, which will be held at San Jose's Center for the Performing Arts on Nov. 11. Fourteen categories for nominees are available: arts, community service, entrepreneurial, professional, elected public officials, communications, corporate, sports, small business, volunteerism, labor, science and technology, public service and education.

Proceeds from the dinner support several charitable organizations benefiting women. Deadline for nominations is Sept. 12. All nominees must live or work in the counties of Santa Clara, San Mateo, San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa or Santa Cruz. For more information, call 249-6636 or send email to Wofund@aol.com.
