League to host 'State of Cities'

The League of Women Voters will host a joint "State of the Cities" event at the Saratoga Civic Theatre on Sept. 20, at 7:30 p.m. The evening will feature the vice-mayor of Saratoga, and the mayors of Los Gatos, Monte Sereno and Campbell individually discussing each city's accomplishments and future challenges.

Audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions through moderator Liz Ansnes, a San Jose State University history professor and member of the league.

"We've not heard much about what the cities stand for lately," said League of Women Voters President Marge Bunyard.

Vice Mayor Nick Streit is scheduled to speak for Saratoga, while Monte Sereno Mayor Barbara Nesbet, Los Gatos Mayor Joe Pirzynski and Campbell Mayor Mathew Dean will each speak for 15 minutes.

Bunyard said she's hoping to have the event televised on local community-access stations.

    Call the league at 408.867.VOTE.

    Saratogan to lead advocacy group

The organization has so far been a volunteer group built around increasing the civic participation of Asian Pacific Americans. In the past, it has organized summer public service internships for Asian Pacific American youth.

The group will continue to support the internship program as well as increase programs for senior citizens .
