Gallery Saratoga to show art medley
Gallery Saratoga, 14531 Big Basin Way, Unit 3, in the Saratoga Village, is gearing up for a new installation by Mary Bielinski Mildbrandt Wyatt, the featured artist for the entire month of September. Her show, titled "Medley of Themes," consists of watercolors painted in the plein aire style, along with large acrylic paintings of realistic, detailed landscapes.
The public is invited to an artist's reception with refreshments on Sept. 8 from 1 to 4 p.m. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call 408.867.0458 or visit www.gallerysaratoga.com on the web.
Library's friends seek local writers
The Friends of the Saratoga Libraries is again joining the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce during the upcoming Celebrate Saratoga! week by showcasing Saratoga residents--past and present--who have become successful authors or illustrators.
The "friends" are soliciting people to be included in the growing Saratoga Authors' Hall of Fame, which currently has more than 125 names. An exhibit, with books from many Hall of Fame members, will also be on display Sept. 8-16 at the Book-Go-Round, 14410 Oak St., which is run by the friends.
Anyone wishing to nominate a Saratogan for the hall of fame can call Jan Pemberton at 408.867.2836 or Mary Jeanne Fenn at 408.867.0564.
Meetings held on Green Circle
Grace United Methodist Church, 19848 Prospect Road in Saratoga, will host two informational coffees for adults interested in learning about the Green Circle program. The meetings will take place Sept. 4 and 11 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Green Circle, a program of the National Conference for Community and Justice, is designed to reduce prejudice and to help elementary school children develop positive social skills by promoting respect and appreciation for the differences among all people. It also teaches problem-solving and group dynamics. Green Circle has been used in Santa Clara County schools for 20 years and is endorsed by the California State PTA.
