    Saratoga senior event is planned

    The Saratoga Senior Center will hold a community barbecue and auction to benefit the Senior Center on Sept. 9, at 5 p.m. The location of the senior center is 19655 Allendale Avenue, across from the post office.

    The event will feature entertainment, food and a live and silent auction with Bill Anders as the DJ. Items for the auction include art, antiques, wine tours, dinners for two, weekend getaways and more.

    Tickets cost $20 for adults and $10 for children 10 and under, and are available at the senior center, Mailboxes Etc. in Saratoga Village and the Colour Shoppe at 12361 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road.

    All proceeds will benefit the senior center, and the event is supported by the Saratoga Lions, Kiwanis, the Rotary Club, the city of Saratoga and local merchants.

    Chamber hosts marketing panel

    The Saratoga Chamber of Commerce will present a program called "How to Successfully Market Your Business" on Sept. 7, from 7:30 to 9 a.m., in the Administration Building board room at West Valley College, 14000 Fruitvale Avenue.

    The panel of speakers will talk about developing websites, writing press releases, developing print materials and other marketing strategies.

    The event costs $10 for Chamber members and $15 for nonmembers. Tickets and more information can be obtained by calling 408.867.5213.

    Voting systems at LWV meeting

    The annual fall kick-off meeting for the League of Women Voters will feature past LWV president Paula Lee speaking on "Election systems throughout the world."

    The discussion will focus on comparing different forms of voting systems and how they affect representation, informed voter participation, stable and effective government, and the prevention of fraud and political manipulation.

    The meeting will begin on Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m., at the Saratoga Library on the corner of Saratoga and Fruitvale avenues. Call 408.867.VOTE, or log on to www.lwv-lg-s-ms.org for more information.
